Lahore — The Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) has confirmed that the 70th National Track Cycling Championship will take place in Lahore from November 15 to 17, 2025.

The three-day event will bring together the country’s top male and female cyclists, competing in both senior and junior categories. Teams from provinces and national departments will take part, making it one of the largest and most anticipated cycling events on Pakistan’s sporting calendar.

Highlights from Recent Championships

The National Track Cycling Championship has consistently showcased the country’s strongest riders and emerging talent.

  • 2024 (69th Edition, Lahore): Sabir and Sadaf of WAPDA led their team to the overall title, winning gold in the women’s elimination race. The event saw record participation across all categories.

  • 2023 (68th Edition): Teams from the Army and SSGC dominated most races. Aqib Shah and Rajiya Shabbir stood out with strong performances in sprint and time trial events.

  • 2022 (67th Edition, Lahore): Aqib Shah captured four gold medals, while Rajiya Shabbir was declared Best Female Cyclist. WAPDA topped the medal table.

Many of these national champions have gone on to represent Pakistan in the Asian Track Championships and South Asian Games.

Preparations and Participation

President of the Pakistan Cycling Federation, Syed Azhar Ali Shah, said all affiliated units have been instructed to begin preparations and hold training camps well before the championship. Detailed competition schedules, technical rules, and equipment guidelines will be released soon. The PCF has also reminded all cyclists to ensure their licenses and registrations are renewed before the event.

Venue and Legacy

The championship will be held at Lahore’s Quaid-e-Azam International Cycling Velodrome — Pakistan’s only operational velodrome and a historic center for national cycling since 1954. The outdoor 333-meter track has hosted numerous championships over the decades and remains the heart of the country’s track cycling program.

Although the federation has long called for modernization of cycling infrastructure, the velodrome continues to nurture generations of national athletes.

Rising Standards and International Success

Pakistan’s presence in international cycling has strengthened in recent years thanks to PCF’s investment in structured training and competition pathways.

In 2024, Pakistani cyclists won six medals at the Asian Road Cycling Championship — one of the country’s best-ever continental results. Female riders Kanza Malik and Asma Jan made history as Pakistan’s first women to compete in the UCI Road World Championships, inspiring a new generation of athletes.

At home, national records continue to improve. Syed Shah’s 1 km time trial record of 1:11.641, set in 2022, still stands as a benchmark for elite riders.

Building the Future of Cycling

The Pakistan Cycling Federation says its long-term plan focuses on developing the sport from the grassroots up. New programs are being introduced to identify young riders, train coaches, and expand regional events.

Commitment to Grassroots Development

The Pakistan Cycling Federation remains deeply committed to developing the sport at the grassroots level through talent identification programs, provincial leagues, and inter-departmental events.
