Tennis Anti-Corruption Program: Bulgarian Brothers Karen and Youri Suspended

24 years old Karen Khachatyran and 19 year old Yuri Khachatyran have been temporarily suspended from professional tennis by Independent Anti-Corruption Unit Officer, Mr. Professor Richard McLaren. 

The suspension of Bulgarian brothers is enforced with effect from June 15, 2019, due to investigations undertaken by the Tennis Integrity Unit into alleged transgression of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program.

Both players will not be eligible to play or attend any recognized or organized event by the governing bodies of Tennis.

Karen Khachatyran, started playing tennis at the age of seven and lost in the 2nd round of ITF World tennis tour in singles held in Pensacola, USA, last month.

Yuri Khachatyran who followed elder brother’s footsteps at the similar age but favours hard surface of court, could not get through the first round of ITF World tennis tour held in Bulgaria earlier this month.

Karen, the older brother, is currently ranked 3021 in ITF World Tennis singles while younger brother Yuri is at 3126 in same ranking.

The Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) is a collective initiative of the International Tennis Federation, Grand Slam Board, the ATP and the WTA, who claimed on joint commitment to a zero tolerance approach towards corruption in tennis.
