WSF World Junior Championships ’19:  Malaysia To Host; Commences 30th July ’19

Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur will host 200 players of 30 nations from 30th July to 4th August for the WSF Men’s & Women’s World Individual Squash Championship. The venue will be the National Squash Centre. 

Opening Ceremony will be held on 29th July ’19. Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) is hosting the event. 

Later on WSF Women’s World Junior Team Championship will be held in the same arena from 5th to 9th August. Championship will feature 18 nations, including debutants Chinese Taipei.

Egyptian World No. 15, Hania El Hammamy for Women’s and World No. 29, Mostafa Asal in the men’s category are the favourites for individual titles in the Championships.

El Hammamy who finished as runner-up in 2017 and 2018 will be hoping for ‘3rd time lucky’, while Asal the champion of 2018 will be eyeing second title in a row to become only fourth Egyptian since 2006 to achieve the milestone.

Draws of the Championships are to be announced in July by the World Squash Federation.

World Junior Championship officially started in 1980, although an unofficial men’s team event was initiated in 1972. The event held biannually until 2009, since then both individual events (Boys and Girls) are being organized annually.

Egypt has been the most dominant nation in the World Junior competitions by winning 33 titles in men’s, women’s individual and team categories. England won 17, Australia 13 while Pakistan won 7 titles in the World Junior. Malaysia won 4 titles, Peru 2, while United States, Finland and Hong Kong grabbed one title each.
