Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins led the Australian bowling rampage to plummet the visitors thus securing a 247 runs victory in the fourth day of the second Test at Melbourne.

New Zealand were bowled out for 240 on the fourth day chasing an already mammoth target of 488 to win after Australian declared their second innings on 168/5.

Kiwis were never to establish themselves on the crease as James Pattinson ripped through the top order leaving them 38/3 during the first session.

Tom Blundell was the only one from the New Zealand side to offer some resistance but even his hard-earned 121 could not stop the inevitable.

This was the second-highest margin defeat suffered by New Zealand, just last week they suffered a 296 runs loss against Australia in Perth.

Travis Head was named Man of the Match for his 114 in first innings.

Australia has secured the series 2-0 after today’s victory and will be looking to whitewash when both teams face each other for the third test in Sydney on January 5.
