Lahore: Team FG/Asean lifted the 14th Lahore Open Polo Championship – Patrons Cup after a nail-biting 8-7 sudden-death victory over Diamond Paints at the Lahore Polo Club on Sunday. The win dethroned the 2024 champions, Master Paints/Newage Cables.
The Final Match
The tournament climax was a showcase of high-octane action. Diamond Paints started strong, taking a 2-1 lead in the first chukka. The teams traded goals, and Diamond Paints held a narrow 4-3 lead at halftime, extending it to 5-4 after the third chukka.
The intensity peaked in the fourth period. Inspired by Raja Mikayial Sami, who scored a remarkable seven goals, FG/Asean mounted a fierce comeback. Both teams traded blows until the score was locked at 7-7, forcing a sudden-death extra chukka.
Veteran Saqib Khan Khakwani delivered the decisive moment, striking a golden goal to seal the dramatic victory for FG/Asean. For Diamond Paints, Raja Jalal Arsalan scored five goals in a valiant effort.
Third Position Playoff
Earlier, BN Polo secured third place with a commanding 11-3 victory over Master Paints Black.
Awards & Context
At the closing ceremony, Raja Mikayial Sami was named the best player of the final. The best pony award went to “Chakira,” owned by Mir Shoaib Ahmed.
