Lahore – Defending champion Abubakar Talha continues his title defense today as the semifinals of the Aitchison College Junior National Tennis Championship 2025 get underway at the historic Aitchison College courts.
The prestigious tournament saw top seeds deliver commanding performances across categories during Thursday’s quarterfinals, with Talha leading a strong field of semifinalists in the Boys Under-18 division.
Boys U-18: Defending Champion Dominates Quarterfinals
Top seed Abubakar Talha, who clinched the Boys U-18 title in the 2024 edition, delivered a flawless performance, overpowering Hamza Ali Rizwan 6–0, 6–0 to secure his place in the final four. He was joined by Amir Mazari (Aitchison), who advanced after a hard-fought 7–5, 4–0 (retired) win against Ruhab Faisal.
In other quarterfinal matches, Hussnain Ali Rizwan defeated Asad Zaman 6–3, 6–3, while Ahtesham Humayun secured a decisive 6–4, 6–1 victory over Zohaib Afzal Malik.
Doubles and Other Categories
The Boys U-18 doubles saw dominant performances from several pairs. The duo of Abubakar Talha and Amir Mazari proved too strong for Abdullah Pirzada and Abdullah Sajjad, winning 6–1, 6–1. Ahtesham Humayun and Zohaib Afzal Malik also eased through their match with a 6–1, 6–1 scoreline, while Hamza Ahmad and Abdullah Yousaf edged out Aryaan Hassan and Ohad-e-Mustafa 6–2, 6–7, 10–8 in a tightly contested tie-breaker.
In the Girls U-18 category, Bismal Zia delivered a dominant 6–0, 6–0 victory over Eman Mubashir, while Fajar Fayyaz, Labia Durab, and Hajra Sohail also recorded straight-set wins to advance.
Younger age categories—including Boys U-14 and U-12, and Girls U-12—also saw impressive performances from Shayan Afridi, M. Ayan, Mustafa Uzair Rana, and Khadija Khalil, all securing their spots in the next round with confident victories.
