The main Badminton body, BWF- Badminton World Federation confirmed that new dates of the prestigious World Junior Championships are 18th to 24th January in 2021.

BWF also announced that the World Junior Mixed Team Championships dates have also been rescheduled and the event will be held prior to the World Junior Championships from 11th to 16th January, 2021.

The two championship as originally planned will be held in Auckland, New Zealand.

BWF release clarified that only those players would be allowed to participate who were eligible for the originally scheduled championships. Further, the new time frame would give enough time to the authorities – BWF, Badminton New Zealand and tournament organisers to stage a successful event. And enable considerable number of junior players to travel to New Zealand.”

Mr. Thomas Lund secretary general of BWF, added that this schedule is the “best option” considering the current situation, which has arisen due to the coronavirus attack. 

The CEO of Badminton New Zealand Mr. Joe Hitchcock has stated that they are confident when the event is held it will be an unforgettable experience. And the New Zealand Government regulations and international border control measures are totally understood.”
