Pakistan announced 16-player each squads for the T20I and ODI series against New Zealand. The matches will be played at Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi from 14th April to 7th May.
Last year’s ICC Cricketer of the Year Babar Azam, who will lead the side in both formats, and Muhammad Rizwan return after being rested for the T20I series against Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s pace attack will be bolstered by return of Shaheen Shah Afridi to international cricket. The highly rated left-arm pacer had picked up a knee injury in July last year during first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle. He missed five Tests and three ODIs against England and New Zealand thereafter. His last international appearance was in the final of the T20 World Cup against England where he bowled 2.1 overs taking a wicket before he retired hurt in the 16th over due to knee injury. After completing the rehab, he captained Lahore Qalandars in the PSL – 8, where his team retained the title.
There are no major surprises in the nominated squads. Fast bowler Ihsanullah and spinner Usama Mir have been rewarded for their stellar performance in the recently concluded PSL-8.
