SWITZERLAND: WBSC – World Baseball Softball Confederation announced that 2021 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup has been postponed till 2023.

Further, WBSC also announced that for 2022, the World Games will be recognized as the main women’s international softball competition, and the team which wins will be declared as the world champion. 

The 2022 World Games will be held from 7th-17th July in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Women’s softball is one of the 30 plus sports to be featured during the 11-day multi-sport event.

The last WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup took place in Chiba, Japan during 2018. It also served as an Olympic qualifier, with the USA Softball Women’s National Team winning the title and berth for 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The last time Softball featured at the World Games in Cali, Colombia during 2013.

The winners of 2020 European Championship which were postponed will participate in the eight-team competition. The teams which have qualified based on the 2019 Olympic Qualifiers. include: World No. 1 USA (host), No. 2 Japan (wild card), No. 3 Canada, No. 5 Mexico, No. 6 Chinese Taipei, No. 7 China and No. 8 Australia.

As to future plans, after WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup is held in 2023, then it will he held every two years.
