Women’s World Team Squash Championship: Egyptian Women Crowned

DALIAN, CHINA: The defending champions Egypt retained the title by beating persistent rivals England 2/0 in the final of the CGG WSF Women’s World Team Squash Championship.
Since 2006, this was the fifth meeting between the two nations’, out of which Egyptians have been the winners four times.

The first and opening match was between Nouran Gohar and Alison Waters. The strength of the Egyptian team can be determined from the fact that the the world No.1 Nour El Sherbini was rested and instead Nouran Gohar, the world no. six played.

The second match was between both the previous world number ones – Raneem El Welily and England’s Laura Massaro.

David Campion the English coach was disappointed by his team’s performance.

Earlier USA and Malaysia playing for 5th position, was moreover a replay of the 2016 position match. USA retained its 5th position by both American sisters – Sabrina Sobhy and Amanda Sobhy winning their respective matches.

The 11th position fight was a striking encounter, in which the 10th seeded Japan after losing a game, came back and won 2/1 against the 11th seeds India.
