Highlights & Analysis
1. Kamran Akmal carried the Peshawar Zalmi to victory in their crunch match against the Lahore Qalandars. With playoff qualification on the line, the Zalmi needed their big players to step up and Akmal was up to the task. Chasing down a strong total, albeit on a batting friendly wicket, the 36 year old put his foot on the gas from the start and struck regular boundaries to put the Qalandars under the pump. Even though a couple of wickets fell around him, Akmal did not slow down and handled a tricky spell of spin bowling with maturity. He was assisted by Mohammad Hafeez, another expert at playing spin. In the end, the Zalmi strolled to a well-deserved victory.
2.Earlier, Devcich had played a risky but fruitful innings and propelled the Qalandars to what, at that time, seemed a challenging total. Devcich combined power hitting with clever use of the pace of the bowlers. His inning was supplemented by the late efforts of Sohail Akhtar and Gulraiz Sadaf. However, as it turned out, those exertions counted for very little.
3.Kamran Akmal has now racked up three half centuries and a century in this year’s edition of the PSL. He has been brilliant throughout and is deservedly top of the batting run charts.
4.Peshawar have now jumped up to second place in the points table and have qualified for the Playoffs. Lahore Qalandars, however, have slumped to their seventh defeat and finished last in what has been a disastrous campaign.
