BWF Badminton World C’ships 2019: Sindhu Becomes 1st Indian To Win

BASEL, SWITZERLAND: Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu won the BWF Badminton World Championships 2019. She became the first Indian to win in a totally dominant manner by defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 in just 36 minutes.

The gold is Sindhu’s fifth medal at the World Championships. Before she has won two silver medals during last two Championships and the Bronze also twice in 2013 and 2014 editions. In the record of this Championship, this is the joint highest record in women’s singles along with Xhang Ning of China, who has been a two-time Olympic gold medal-list.

Sindhu and Okuhara had last competed in a World Championships final was in 2017. Which in comparison to the present encounter was a much tense encounter which had stretched for nearly two hours with Okuhara winning.
