Chinese athletes have been allowed to participate in the upcoming Olympic Basketball Qualifying matches provided that they submit a mandatory medical certificate and undergo a quarantined screening process to contain the spread of coronavirus.

China’s women basketball team is scheduled to play Great Britain in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifiers scheduled for later this week. The matches are being played in Serbia.

The FIBA – International Basketball Federation imposed strict conditions on Chinese athletes after the severe outbreak of coronavirus that began in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Team GB’s spokesperson welcomed the news calling it a ‘crucial security measure’ to ensure the health and safety of players on all sides as well as team management and the local population.

Earlier in a similar move, the Chinese female Soccer team was also quarantined in their Brisbane hotel ahead of the qualifying match against Thailand on February 3. The said match has now been postponed to after February 5 when Quarantine ends.

The global pandemic has now infected thousands in china and other countries with death toll crossing 300. The WHO – World Health Organization in its latest meeting categorized the disease as a global health emergency.
