Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 44 runs in the first test match thanks to the outstanding bowling performance as both Naseem Shah and Yasir Shah claimed four wickets each in the second innings.

Bangladesh began the fourth day’s play at 126-6 needing another 86 runs to avoid an innings defeat with two days to play after the sensational bowling onslaught by young Naseem Shah had crippled the visitors’ top and middle order.

However, it was spinner Yasir Shah’s day to shine as the only established batsman Liton Das was routed for 29 and Bangladesh were bowled out within 90 minutes on the fourth day on 168.

Naseem Shah was awarded man of the match for his five total wickets during the match including a record-making hattrick. He became the youngest player to achieve the feat in a test match.

Earlier Bangladesh had scored 233 in their first innings in the Rawalpindi test and the hosts responded with 445 thanks to Shan Masood’s 100 (160) and Babar Azam’s 143 (190).

Pakistan now leads the two-match test series 1-0. Bangladesh will return for the second test and a single ODI in April after the fifth edition of PSL – Pakistan Super League concludes.
