The 2nd Imam Reza International Cup commenced in Mashad, Iran with 150 athletes participating from Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Turkey, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Oman, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

From Pakistan Sharoz Khan and Abdul Mueed won Silver Medals in the events of High Jump and 400m race respectively.  

The international athletics events being held at Imam Reza sports complex are in honour of Ali Baghbanbashi, the Late Iranian long-distance runner who died in October, 2021.

A seven-member Pakistan athletics squad is participating. The members are: Shajar Abbas (100m & 200m), Abdul Mueed (200m & 400m), Sharoz Khan (high jump), Kashif Majeed (long jump) and Muhammad Yasir (javelin throw).

Two coaches Qazi Tanveer Hussain and Rana Sajjad Ahmad Khan are also accompanying the squad.
