South Africa was the last nation to qualify for the ANOC (Association of National Olympic Committees) World Beach Games as both their men’s and women’s triples teams were victorious at the African Beach Games 2023, held in Hammamet, Tunisia.

South Africa is now included in the list of earlier qualifiers – Brazil (Pan Am), Netherlands and France (Europe) and Hong Kong China, who qualified at the World Beach Games; Bali. Cook Islands will represent Oceania. The hosts Indonesia, China, Korea, Malaysia, Germany and Denmark had qualified based on the World Team Rankings.

AirBadminton’s World Beach Games debut next month from 5th-9th August and will feature 72 athletes – 36 men and 36 women). The four medal events include men’s and women’s triples, mixed doubles and mixed team relay.

Last Qualifier Overview

The South Africans remained unbeaten and showed they are continents tough team to beat in both disciplines of AirBadminton. Also in semis South africa remained unscathed in both men and women categories by winning 30 against Zambia and Algeria respectively.

In the final against Benin, the South African women’s squad which included Jabu Gininda, Cayleen Milller and Diane Olivier only lost a game but won the match 3-1 (11-1 5-11 11-9 11-6). The men lost openers 13-12 to Nigeria before gaining control to win three consecutive games 11-6 13-11 12-10.
