The 2021 World Championships has been shifted from August to later part of the year, this was announced by BWF – Badminton World Federation.

The new date of the highest tournament is scheduled from 29th November till 5th December at the Carolina Marin Stadium in the city of Huelva, Spain.

The prime reason of the World Championships postponement is the delay in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics till 2021.

The extracts of the official statement of BWP and the FESBA – Spanish Badminton Federation were as follows:

  • “BWF-The Badminton World Federation and FESBA-Spanish Badminton Federation can confirm the BWF World Championships original scheduled for August 2021 will now take place at the end of 2021 from Monday 29th November to Sunday 5th December.”
  • “The decision to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games to 23rd July to 8th August and 24th August until 5th September 2021 only confirmed this move.”

BWF elaborated that the new schedule will give an opportunity to the players to focus and prepare during 2021 for both the major events – Olympic Games and Badminton World Championships. The Federation also announced that the qualification process for the three major events – Olympic, Paralympic Games and the Badminton World Championships will be decided later.
