The final of the Blind Cricket World Cup served up a cracker of a contest between traditional rivals India and Pakistan. The match went right down to the wire before the Indians held their nerve to come out victorious.

Finals can be won and lost because of individual performances. Teams need their big players to stand up if they are to be successful. This time it was Sunil Ramesh who stood up and gave India the required boost they needed to get their hands on the prestigious trophy. He played a great knock of 93 and along with skipper Ajay Tiwari, who scored a fine 62 as well, propelled India to 190/3 after 25 overs while chasing down a total of 308 runs. India, who lost Ramesh, were 271/4 after 35 overs. They stuttered towards the closing stages of the game after they lost Ajay followed by two hasty dismissals but in the end crossed the finish line.

Earlier, riding on Badar Munir’s fine half-century, Pakistan scored 307/8 to give India a challenging target. Riyasat Khan and skipper Nisar Ali also chipped in with 48 and 47 respectively to take Pakistan’s total to more than 300 after they were put into bat by India.

This was India’s second win, equaling Pakistan in terms of success at the tournament.
