ECBThere was a time when cricket match was only known to go for 4 or 5 days. However, as the world has evolved into the 21st century so is the game of cricket.

After, One-day cricket was introduced soon came T20 and nowadays even T10 cricket took place recently in UAE.

Well, now it seems that the England and Wales Cricket board is going to introduce a new format in 2020.

According to this format, each team will face up to a 100 balls each that is 4 overs less than conventional T20 cricket.

This proposed format will feature 8 teams and each team would face fifteen six-ball overs plus another 10 balls to make it a total of 100 balls per innings.

According to ECB chairman, this is an exciting idea that will be introduced to attract the younger generation towards the game of cricket.

Furthermore, he also pointed out that cricket has a history of innovation and its future growth is their responsibility.

Is IPL the reason behind all this?

England’s county championship and IPL have had the same clashing dates from the start of the Indian T20 league. Each year more and more players are preferring IPL for the money and glamour.

This year also English players like Tom Curran, Alex Hales and Moeen Ali did their debut in IPL.

This is a growing concern for ECB and it seems like this step is taken to ensure that English players are retained by their respective county teams in the future.
