Wimbledon 2018 Highlights: Day 5; Round of 32 – 2nd Half Doubles

Men’s Doubles

Double’s: Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Federico Delbonis vs Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic

Result: Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Federico Delbonis defeated Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic by 4-6, 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5, 6-2.

Highlights:

  • After a tough battle between the two pairs, Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic claimed victory in the first set as they scored the last two points in a quick succession in the end.

  • However, Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Federico Delbonis again lost the next set on the tie-break as they got into pressure after defeat in the previous sets.
  • But, Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Federico Delbonis came in action and successfully managed to win the next two sets in a row.

  • Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic eventually faced a humiliating defeat in the fifth set as they were only able to score a total of two points in the whole set.
  • Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Federico Delbonis will now face Leonardo Mayer and Joao Sousa in the round of 16 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Double’s: Alexander Peya and Nikola Mektic vs Dusan Lajovic and Mirza Basic

Result: Alexander Peya and Nikola Mektic defeated Dusan Lajovic and Mirza Basic by 6-7(1), 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Highlights:

  • Although, Alexander Peya and Nikola Mektic opened the scoring of the first set but they eventually lost the set on the tie-breaker by dropping the point on the last serve.
  • However, they both managed to defeat Dusan Lajovic and Mirza Basic in the second set on the tie-break again as this time Dusan and Mirza failed to score in the dying moments of the set.

  • In the third set, Alexander Peya and Nikola Mektic faced a terrible defeat but they replied to Dusan Lajovic and Mirza Basic by giving them the defeat in the fourth set by a total of three points.
  • However, Alexander Peya and Nikola Mektic won the fifth set after a tough fight and made it to the next round.

  • Alexander Peya and Nikola Mektic will now play against Robin Haase and Robert Lindstedt in the round of 16 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Double’s: Marcin Matkowski and Jonathan Erlich vs Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo

Result: Marcin Matkowski and Jonathan Erlich defeated Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Mel by 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(4), 7-6(8).

Highlights:

  • Marcin Matkowski and Jonathan Erlich fought well in the first set but they eventually lost it on the tie-break as they dropped some points.
  • But Marcin Matkowski and Jonathan Erlich replied to Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Mel by winning the next set by a total of two points.
  • However, Marcin Matkowski and Jonathan Erlich continued their winning ways and ultimately won the next two sets on the tie-break.

  • Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Mel both made a total of fifteen double faults as compared to Marcin Matkowski and Jonathan Erlich who made only two of it throughout the match.
  • Marcin Matkowski and Jonathan Erlich next match of round of 16 is yet to be decided at Wimbledon 2018.

 

Double’s: Mike Bryan and Jack Sock vs Matwe Middelkoop and Sander Arends

Result: Mike Bryan and Jack Sock defeated Matwe Middelkoop and Sander Arends by 6-7(2), 6-1, 7-6(3), 7-6(4).

Highlights:

  • Mike Bryan and Jack Sock took a brilliant start as they took the lead in the first set of the match.
  • However, after a tough fight between the two pairs, Matwe Middelkoop and Sander Arends won the set on the tie-break in the end.

  • An exceptional performance was seen by Mike Bryan and Jack Sock as they defeated Matwe Middelkoop and Sander Arends in the second set by 6-1.
  • Mike Bryan and Jack Sock maintained their form and successfully won the next two sets too on the tie-breaker.

  • Although, Matwe Middelkoop and Sander Arends both scored eight points on aces but still they failed to make it to the next round.
  • Mike Bryan and Jack Sock will now face Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies in the round of 16 of Wimbledon 2018.

 

Double’s: Joe Salisbury and Frederik Nielsen vs Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Rohan Bopanna

Result: Joe Salisbury and Frederik Nielsen defeated Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Rohan Bopanna by 6-4, 7-6(4), 2-1.

Highlights:

  • Joe Salisbury and Frederik Nielsen won the first set after a tough fight by 6-4 as they scored the last two points in a quick succession.

  • However, Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Rohan Bopanna gave them a tough fight in the next set, as it eventually came to a tie-breaker.
  • But, Joe Salisbury and Frederik Nielsen again won the set on the tie-breaker and the match moved on to the next set.

  • The next was started that somebody from Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Rohan Bopanna got injured and the match was finished with Joe Salisbury and Frederik Nielsen advancing to the next round.

  • Joe Salisbury and Frederik Nielsen will now face Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal in the round of 16 of Wimbledon 2018.
