Fresh inductee Zion Williamson delivered with 22 points but was undone by LaMarcus Aldridge’s 32 as San Antonio Spurs defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 121-117 in their latest NBA fixture.

Williamson, who was playing his first game struggled for three quarters but then scored 17 consecutive points for Pelicans in the fourth quarter to give his side a slight lead.

The 19-year-old made his NBA debut in the latest Pelicans game despite being drafted last year as he was recovering from knee surgery.

Brandon Ingram scored 22 points along with Lonzo Ball’s 14 and Jrue Holiday’s 12 to keep the New Orleans Pelicans in the game. Williamson also pitched in with seven rebound and three assists.

However, the heroic display by the debutant was not enough to save the match as Spurs recovered the 3 points deficit thanks to DeMar DeRozan’s 20 points. They sealed the victory with 119-117 with only 40 seconds to spare that went without a score by both sides.
