Highlights & Analysis

  1. In the first match of the season at the historic Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the Quetta Galdiators put in an impressive performance and stifled Islamabad United to record a morale boosting victory. The starring role in their success was played by the brilliant Kevin Pietersen. After an uneasy start to his innings, Pietersen settled and started to play in the way that has put many bowling attacks to the sword. He smashed the ball to the boundary seven times and in doing so, wrecked any chances of Islamabad pulling off an unlikely victory.
  2. The setup and platform for the batting fireworks were setup by the well rounded Quetta bowling attack. The bowlers not only took wickets at crucial times but also kept the Islamabad batsmen in check and provided them with few if any easy opportunities to score.
  3. The Islamabad outfit must be disappointed by their experienced middle order’s inability to score runs and build upon the good work of Luke Ronchi, whose innings was perhaps the only positive of the night for them. Both Misbah-ul-Haq and JP Duminy were playing their first matches of the season and looked understandably rusty. They must quickly find form if Islamabad are to have a positive season.
  4. Quetta climb to third place and now have four points. Misbah’s Islamabad, meanwhile, are stuck on two points, and are placed fifth, in what is proving to be a substandard season.
