The trials for the selection of Pakistan team to participate in Davis Cup tie against Iran in Feb 2017 have commenced at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex Islamabad.
Seven players namely Muhammad Abid Mushtaq, Yasir Khan, Heera Ashiq, Abid Ali Akbar, Mudasir Murtaza, Muzamil Murtaza and Ahmed Chohdri are taking part in the first phase of trials, which will continue for seven days. In the Second phase, two members will be selected for the team and would be held in the second half of January.
Aqeel Khan & Aisamul haq are exempted from trials .Rashid Malik is named as the non-playing captain of the team. The results of the played matches so far are as under.
1) Muzamil Murtaza beat Mudasir Murtaza 6-3, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.
2) Muhammad Abid Mushtaq beat Ahmed Chohdri 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6,7-5
3) Abid Ali Akbar beat Yasir Khan 6-3,6-2, 6-3
4) Muzamil Murtaza beat Heera Ashiq 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-5
5) Yasir beat Mudasir Murtaza 6-1, 6-1, 6-3
