A warning signal was given by IOC-International Olympics Committee to IWF-International Weightlifting Federation that there is a strong possibility of weightlifting losing its spot in 2020 Olympic Games if more corruption is revealed.

Earlier extensive corruption and drug cover ups has been found in the IWF by an investigation. Mr. Richard McLaren the Main investigator stated that the scrutiny into the IWF affairs, under the ex-president Tamas Ajan, detected unaccounted money amounting to US$10.4 million, buying of vote and proof of close to 40 covered up positive doping cases.

IOC president Thomas Bach commented via a teleconference that, “We made it very clear depending on the results of the findings of the IWF oversight commission, we reserve the right for very far-reaching measures including but not limited to the question of weightlifting being on the programme of the Olympic Games.”

Bach elaborated that for the Tokyo Olympics to be held in 2021, the IOC accreditation will not be granted to any IWF official implicated by the ongoing inquiry.
