Michael Phelps is an American retired swimmer and the most complete and decorated Olympian of all time, with a sum of 28 medals to his name.
The athlete was a USA Olympic team member in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 respectively, and additionally holds 13 Olympic medals from a singular occasion; A record still unbroken to this day.
Phelps began swimming from an early age and despite being diagnosed from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the young swimmer broke the national record in the 100-meter butterfly race. This record has only recently been broken by a 10 year old boy, by the name of Clark Kent after a total of 23 years.

Controversies

Micheal Phelps had his part of controversies, as he was once arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while another time his photos of using drugs also went viral. The most dark period in Phelps life came in 2014 when he was arrested again while driving under the influence of alcohol and was suspended from all competitions for six months.

However, despite these controversies a total of 7 medals in the 2016 Olympic Games and reaffirmed his status as the world’s best swimmer of all time.
