Pakistan’s Asad Shafiq has risen to number 20 in the latest ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Wednesday.

The development comes  after Shafiq’s remarkable performance in the 4th innings of the first Test match against Australia in Brisbane where  the visitors had the daunting task of chasing 490 runs . Asad’s  record breaking 137 runs’ innings along with his ability to take along the tail enders like Amir , Wahab & Yasir Shah  took Pakistan so close to the finishing line  but unfortunately they fell 39 runs short of the target.   That gritty performance earned him enough points to raise his ranking rapidly to No. 20. Shafiq jumped five places from the 25th position to his current ICC ranking.

Younis Khan, after making a comeback in his last performance with 65 from 147 balls, moved one place from 10th to 9th. However, Misbah ul Haq, who was previously on 14th position, was relegated to 19th position due to failed performance in both the innings.

On the bowling side, no Pakistani bowler except Yasir Shah made it to the top 10. Shah managed only three wickets during the Brisbane Test match against Australia and is currently No. 10 in ICC Test Ranking of bowlers
