Mahmood Lodhi the Chess International Master from Pakistan again won the 8th Asian Senior Chess Championship 2017. He had first won this championship in 2015. Mahmood is also the reigning Pakistan national champion and has won the National Chess Championship a record 15 times.
The Championships was held from 9th October to 15th October 2017 in the Waipuna Conference Centre, Auckland, New Zealand.
According to the championship rule, the New Zealand Chess Federation, on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation, invites national federations in FIDE zones 3.1—3.7 to participate in the 8th Asian Seniors Chess Championships for Men over 50 & over 65 years old and for Women over 50.
The tournament is played is 9 rounds according to Swiss System in respect to the FIDE Rules. Time control is 90 minutes for the whole game, with 30 seconds increment per move from the first move.
