While these days Gilgit Baltistan is the hub for the Pakistan National Chess Championship. Another, feather in the Gilgit Chess cap was inauguration of the first school chess club at Gilgit High School 1 in coordination.
For the club, CFP-Chess Federation of Pakistan will provide technical support, training program and 50 chess sets. Further, CFP President, Mr. Hanif Qureshi announced that as an encouragement, two extra seats for GB have been allocated in the National Junior Chess Championship.
Mr. Qureshi exclusively conversing with Allsportspk mentioned that CFP is looking forward to engage governments, media, sponsors, FIDE and enthusiastic ladies and gentlemen for the promotion of chess in Pakistan which is the birthplace of chess. I want to personally overlook for chess into school program and will also engage all educational institutions to become part of chess promotion.
He also thanked GB Minister of Sports – Mr. Raja Nasir, Assistant Chief Secretary – Mr. Aziz Jamali, Secretary Sports – Momin Jan, Director Sports – Hussain Ali, Principal Director of High School 1 Gilgit – Mr. Shahzad.
