Man of the Match: Shikhar Dhawan

Highlights:

·         Delhi who were having the worst IPL season so far now faced the strongest team in the IPL, namely the Sunrisers Hyderabad who were at the top of the IPL points table.

·         And, they needed to give it all on a high scoring ground if they wanted to win this match against SRH.

·        So, Delhi won the toss and elected to bat first on this high scoring ground. But, a similar display of bowling was shown by SRH in the first overs as Shakib Al Hasan’s double strike got rid of Delhi’s openers quite cheaply.

·         Then to further complicate things for Delhi Shreyas Iyer got run out and Delhi wer 3 wickets down in 8 overs. Then came in the young power-hitter Rishabh Pant who looked to go big tonight; which he did.

·         Pant came and he brought destruction with him as no SRH bowler could withstand his excellent form. Meanwhile, no other batsman other than HV Patel could properly rotate the strike with Pant as SRH continued to take wickets from the other end.

·        But, Pant alone was more than enough to score runs for his team as he went on to score a century and remained unbeaten till the very last ball. But, even his unbeaten innings could not take Delhi to 200+ as no other Delhi batsman contributed enough runs to make a difference.

·         KKR bowlers were pretty average today, however they needed their batsman to be above average as they needed to score 211 runs to win off 20 overs.

·         SRH now needed 188 runs to win. But it was not going to be easy as in the previous matches their bowlers had bailed them out. However, this time they needed their batsman to step up to the occasion.

·         So, the 2nd innings started as SRH openers Alex Hales and Shikhar Dhawan walked on the ground. SRH needed a good opening partnership but they were denied this oppurtunity as Patel struck in his 1st over to remove Hales.

.         But, then came Kane Williamson who had been in excellent form all season. He along with Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten throughout the match, all thanks to Delhi Daredevils poor bowling and fielding.

·         Also, no Delhi bowler looked threatning enough to dismiss the two batsmen as SRH won the match by 9 wickets.

·         After this win, SRH retain their position at the top of the table while Delhi remain at the last position.
