Current World no. 11, Kvitova, who won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, was attacked during a burglary of her home in Prostejov in the Czech Republic on Tuesday. Kvitova, who plays left-handed, suffered injuries to her left hand described as ‘severe’ and underwent surgery on Wednesday.

Kvitova’s representatives released the information that the nearly four-hour surgery ‘went well’ as damage to tendons in all five digits of the 26-year-old’s left hand was repaired, as well as two nerves.
