AUCKLAND: New Zealand defended 273-8 to beat India by 22 runs in the second ODI – One Day International match clinching the three-match series 2-0 on a superb bowling performance particularly by newcomer Kyle Jamieson.

Batting first, the hosts had managed to post 273-8 in the 50 overs thanks to opener Martin Guptil’s 79 and Ross Taylor’s unbeaten 73. Yuzvendra Chahal claimed three and Shardul Thakur two from the Indian side.

The meager total seemed an unlikely one to be defended with Indian batting line sporting a number of top-ranked performers but Kiwi bowlers were eager to make a difference. They found the first opportunity as bother openers Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw were dismissed within 5 overs on 3 and 24 respectively.

Indian skipper and star batsman Virat Kohli came in at number four looking to establish a strong partnership Shreyas Iyer but was quickly routed by Tim Southee and could add only 15 runs to the total.

Iyer and Jadeja tried to put up some resistance against the bowling onslaught from the Kiwis and scored half-centuries as wickets kept falling and the required run rate kept on rising.

Navdeep Saini was the last hope for visitors but was bowled by Kyle Jamieson in the 45th over. In the end, India were bowled out 251 in 49th over after Jadeja was caught by Colin de Grandhomme on James Neeshan’s quick delivery.

Debutant Kyle Jamieson was awarded man of the match for his fantastic bowling spell. He claimed two wickets for 42 runs and bowled 10 overs in his first-ever ODI match.

New Zealand now leads the three-match series 2-0 after the latest win. Third ODI between two teams will be played on 11 February at Mount Maunganui cricket stadium.
