Two Romanian weightlifters have been stripped of their 2012 Olympics Medals after testing positive for banned substances, the IWF – International Weightlifting Federation has announced.

Romanians Roxana Cocos and Razvan Martin were found guilty of doping practices after their 2012 samples were tested again with modern technology and steroid tracings were found.

Cocos won the Silver medal in women’s 69kg category. Her medal will now be passed to Kazakhastan’s Anna Nurmukhambetova whereas Colombia’s Ubaldina Valoyes will get the bronze.

Martin’s Bronze medal in the men’s 69kg category will now be awarded to North Korean Kim Myong-Hok. The Romanian lifter had already been banned on doping charges from the 2013-2105 session.

Meanwhile, Erol Bilgin, a Turkish Lifter who could not win will also be disqualified. He ranked eighth in men’s 62kg events at the 2012 Olympics.

The recent development means that now more than 50 weightlifters from 2008 and 2012 Olympics have failed the re-testing process and the medals tables from these two Olympics events have been altered beyond recognition.

The IOC – International Olympics Committee has been pressing the IWF for severe scrutiny of doping allegations after several instances of doping coverups and financial discrepancies were unearthed by the German media.
