Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza made a comeback to the court and marked her first victory after a gap of two years in her doubles WTA match during Hobart International 2020.

Mirza along with her Ukrainian partner Nadiia Kichenok outclassed Oksana Kalashnikova and Miyu Kato 2-6, 7-6 (3), (10-3) to win their match in the Round of 16.

The pair has now qualified for the quarterfinals at Hobart International where they will face Christina McHale and Vania King for a place in the semi-finals.


The 33-year-old Indian who is married to Pakistani Cricketer Shoaib Malik is playing in her first Grand Slam event after giving birth to a baby by in 2018.

Mirza will also be playing in the Australian Open starting this week where she will join Indian Rohan Bopanna for mixed doubles.

Social Media community welcomed Mirza’s victorious return to the court and termed it a step forward for women having a professional career and raising their children as well.


Earlier, Serena Williams won the Auckland Open Champion title returning to the field after 2 years following the birth of a baby girl.

  • Alize Cornet defeated Alison Van Uytvanck 7-5, 1-6, 6-2.
