Lahore: The Shoe Planet Pakistan Polo Cup 2016 will get underway from Tuesday at the historic Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground.

Addressing the first press conference of the polo season 2016-2017 here at the club premises, LPC president Irfan Ali Hyder, flanked by Assistant Brand Manager Ali, Corporate Service and PR Manager  Qurat-ul-Ain and Agha Najeeb, said: “The polo season at the club commenced on the October 17, 2016 and we have already organized 9 tournaments. The first of these tournaments was Polo in Pink by Shaukat Khanum – the club being mindful  of it responsibility to society  and the menace of cancer started its season by creating awareness for Breast Cancer – sponsored by Happy Cow owned by one of our members.”

“This was followed by tournaments sponsored by Adisseo, Seasons Canola, Treet, Magic River and Diamond Paints also sponsored by our own members – so you can see our members playing a very positive role in contributing towards the success of the club,” he added. Speaking about Pakistan Polo Cup, the LPC president said the shoe planet-sponsored tournament would commence from December 19 with 5 teams participating in it. It is a 10-goal tournament with the lower limit of 6 goals. It also has a low goal concurrent tournament running with it.”

Lauding the cooperation of Shoe Planet, Mr. Irfan said:“I am grateful to Shoe Planet CEO Shahid Hussain for sponsoring this tournament – as they have on numerous occasions in the past. Their generous contribution and cooperation will certainly make this event a success.”

In his message, Shoe Plant CEO Shahid Hussain said:”Polo is arguably the oldest recorded team game in the history of game world. It is a matter of great pride and honor for Shoe Planet to sponsor this event for the fourth time in a row. This sponsorship demonstrates our long standing support for the polo tournament in Pakistan.”

“A part from organising tournaments, the club also imparts lesson in riding through its Riding School which has 150 students of all ages both Boys & Girls and is a success story The Junior Polo league run by two of our senior members Junior Polo League being a success story,” he added.

Five teams have been featuring in this tournament. Pool A has two teams including Dollar East and ZTBL while Pool B has three teams Master Paints, Army Colts and Barry’s. The inaugural match of the tournament will be played between Dollar East and ZTBL teams.
