Usain Bolt won the 100 meters at the 56th Ostrava Golden Spike event. This race was just before he retires after competing in his final race in August at the world championships in London.

In his final season, Bolt was slow in the beginning but before the halfway point soared ahead to finish in a time of 10.06 seconds. He just managed to marginally beat Cuba’s – Yunier Perez, who ran his best of 10.09 seconds.

The Jamaican, who has 8 Olympic golds and 13 world championship medals said:

  • “he was not happy about clocking over 10 seconds for the second straight race, although he remained confident about the remainder of the season.”
  • “I am not happy with the time but I am just getting to my running,”
  • “I have some training to do… But I will be fine.”
  • “The biggest thing is always the crowd… That is why I keep coming back here. You guys are wonderful. Thanks for everything.”
