Mr. Iqbal the expedition operator based in Gilgit informed:

– Yesterday the 28th June there was extensive helicopter search despite not having favourable weather conditions.
– The search was carried out till the height of 7,000 meters.
– The helicopter are on standby even today but the weather conditions are not favourable.
– Rest of the 11 expedition members are still at the base camp at Diamer.
– One of the expedition member from Turkey has returned back to Islamabad.
– The tour operator team along with high altitude porters and experts are also at the base camp.
– The possibility of the expedition re attempting the climb is open and will be decided after the ‘fate’ of the missing colleagues is known. The weather conditions will also play a major role is the
final decision.

Allsportspk First Feed: as of 27th June

According to police reports two foreign climbers who were part of a 14 members foreign expedition attempting to scale Nanga Parbat have gone missing.

The climbers Alberto Zerain Berasategi from  Spain and Mariano Galacan from Argentina, went missing while attempting to climb the ‘killer mountain’. The team with members belonging to various countries including Argentina, Italy, Korea and Spain left from the base camp of Nanga Parbat on June 18.

However after attempting the climb, 12 members of the team came back to the base camp while contact has been lost with the missing climbers for the past three days. A snow avalanche is feared to have hit the missing climbers.
