AIBA – International Boxing Association announced that India has lost the rights to hold the 2021 men’s world boxing championship as the Indian National Boxing Federation was not able to pay the required host fee.
Serbia has been given the right to host the event in the city of Belgrade
With this India lost the chance to host the biggest Boxing event for the first time in the country.
Upon termination the agreement signed with Indian Federation in 2017, the official statement of AIBA stated:
“After New Delhi did not fulfill its obligations to pay host fee as mentioned in the Host City Agreement terms, AIBA has terminated the contract. Thus, India will have to pay USD 500 as a cancellation penalty.”
