ITF launched the Team Competition for International players aged 16 & under in 1985, under the name – World Youth Cup. During 2002 the event was re-branded with the boys competition as ‘Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas’ as a new partnership with BNP Paribas was signed. In 2005, the name of girls’ competition was also changed to ‘Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas,’ before being known as the ‘Junior Billie Jean King Cup’ in 2020.
The event has become a major competition, which is evident from the fact that during its first year in 1985 – 44 nations participated in the regional qualifying, with the number of participants having grown annually to around 100 nations.
