PTF-Pakistan Tennis Federation announced a three member team to represent Pakistan, in the upcoming Junior Davis Cup 16&U Qualifying Event, scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan during the week of 8th May 2023.

Junior Davis Cup 2019 Boys U 16 – Play Offs Stage: 2nd Tie Pak Win

The selection of 3 members was conducted on the 3rd and 4th of January 2023, at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex Islamabad. From the 8 players who were invited for the trials as per their ranking and performance, the following were selected. Pakistan No. 1 Aqeel Khan will be accompanying the team as a non-playing captain/ coach.

History

Brazil are the existing Junior Davis Cup champions after defeating USA in the 2022 Finals held in Antalya, Türkiye 

ITF launched the Team Competition for International players aged 16 & under in 1985, under the name – World Youth Cup. During 2002 the event was re-branded with the boys competition as ‘Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas’ as a new partnership with BNP Paribas was signed. In 2005, the name of girls’ competition was also changed to ‘Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas,’ before being known as the ‘Junior Billie Jean King Cup’ in 2020. 

Popularity

The event has become a major competition, which is evident from the fact that during its first year in 1985 – 44 nations participated in the regional qualifying, with the number of participants having grown annually to around 100 nations.
