Single’s: Mihaela Buzarnescu vs Petra Martic

Result: Mihaela Buzarnescu defeated Petra Martic by 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Highlights:

  • An outclass performance was seen today between Mihaela Buzarnescu and Petra Martic in all the three sets.
  • Mihaela Buzarnescu took the lead in the first set however, Petra Martic started recovering it after some time.
  • But unfortunately, Mihaela Buzarnescu lost some points on the serve and ultimately lost the set by 4-6.

  • Mihaela Buzarnescu again opened the scoring in the second set and this time she build up a great lead for Petra Martic.
  • Petra Martic however, managed to recover only three points throughout the set and eventually lost the set to Mihaela Buzarnescu by 6-3.

  • The match moved on to the third and decisive set as Petra Martic faced a terrible defeat in the last set.
  • Soon the third set started and Mihaela Buzarnescu again took the lead this time.
  • Mihaela Buzarnescu played at its best in this set as Petra Martic was only able to score two points against her.

  • Mihaela Buzarnescu will now face Elina Svitolina in the Quarter Finals of the Birmingham Classic 2018.

Double’s: Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs vs Shuko Aoyama and Raluca Olaru

Result: Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs defeated Shuko Aoyama and Raluca Olaru by 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.

Highlights:

  • Both the pairs gave their best on the grass courts today in all the three sets.
  • Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs opened the scoring of the first set and they extended it at a very fast pace.
  • On the other hand, Shuko Aoyama and Raluca Olaru managed to recover only three points and finally lost the first set by 6-3.

  • The match moved on to the second set. Shuko Aoyama and Raluca Olaru took the lead this time and they played much better in this set than the previous one.
  • Despite the fact that, Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs won the first set, they both lost three points on the serve in the second and ultimately lost the set by 6-2.
  • The match moved on to the third set as Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs faced a shocking defeat in the last set.

  • An outclass performance was seen from both the pairs in this set as the score reached 8-5 with Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs leading.
  • At last, Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs finally won the set by 10-7 as Shuko Aoyama and Raluca Olaru both lost a total of 5 points on their serve.
  • Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs will now face Yang Zhaoxuan and Chan Hao-ching in the Quarter finals of the Birmingham Classic 2018.

Double’s: Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova vs Karolina Pliskova and Julia Gorges

Result: Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova defeated Karolina Pliskova and Julia Gorges by 6-4, 6-4.

Highlights:

  • Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova opened the scoring of the first set with an excellent ace.
  • They were extending their lead at a very fast pace but Karolina Pliskova and Julia Gorges came in action and started recovering the points.

  • In the end, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova claimed the victory in the first set by 6-4 as Karolina Pliskova and Julia Gorges failed to score the last two points.
  • The match moved to the second set which was a decisive one for Karolina Pliskova and Julia Gorges.
  • The set started and this time Julia Gorges and Karolina Pliskova took the lead, however, they failed to extend it large enough for their opponents.
  • Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova not only recovered the points  instead they took the lead in a couple of minutes.

Birmingham Classic 2018 Highlights: Day 5 – 1st Half

  • Finally, Julia Gorges and Karolina Pliskova lost the second set too by 6-4 as they lost the last point on their serve.
  • Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova booked their place into the Quarter finals of the Birmingham Classic 2018 where they will face Katie Boulter and Heather Watson.
