Fed Cup Heart Award ’19: Australian Barty &French Garcia Nominated

Following their semifinals performances,  Australian Ashleigh Barty and French Caroline Garcia have been nominated for Fed Cup Heart Award 2019.   

Both joined the quartet of nominees including Switzerland’s Viktorjia, Spain’s Carla Saurez Navaroo, Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova, and English player Katie Boulter.  

Barty, pairing with Samantha Stosur,  beat Aryan Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka in a doubles match.  

Earlier, the new Singles World No. 2 defeated the same duo in Singles match clinching the tie. Barty hasn’t lost a single Fed Cup match since 2017.  

Meanwhile, Caroline Garcia played vital role in France’s 3-2 victory over Romania. The French top player clinched the victory over Irina-Camelia Begu ensuring 1-1 tie at the end of first day before defeating Simona Halep, former World No.1, in a nerve-wrecking three-set match.  

Fed Cup Heart Award is an initiative launched by ITP – International Tennis Federationin 2009 to recognize the players who have served their countries with heart, expressed exceptional commitment and shown outstanding courage on court for their teams during BNP Paribas’ Fed Cup.
