BEIJING: China’s Sun Yang stormed off to the finish line to win men’s 200m freestyle in the second leg of the 2020 FINA Champions Swim Series on Saturday.

Sun finished the freestyle race in a record time of 1:45:55 just 19 seconds ahead of Lithuania’s Danas Rapsys (1:45:74). Hungary’s came third with a finish time of 1:48:98.

The 22-year-old Chinese took a longer amount of time at the start and was an arm’s length behind his Lithuanian rival but overcame the deficit and managed to avoid the same feat as Shenzen race where he lost just by 0.03 seconds.


Meanwhile, Daiya Seto set a new Asian time record in the 200m butterfly by finishing the race in just 1:53.36 breaking his own previous record of 1:53.86.


In other races, China’s Xu Jiayu and Japan’s Ryosuke Irie shared the gold medal in the Men’s 100m BACK category after posting the exact time of 52.97.

The second and final leg of the 2020 International Swimming Federation (FINA) Champions Swim Series is taking place over the weekend in the Chinese capital where athletes from several countries are competing in 20 events as a precursor to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
