Highlights
  • Sebastian Vettel was victories after a close contest with Valtteri Bottas.
  • This was 49th victory for Sebastian in his 200th Grand Prix start
  • Sebastian was in control of the race from the start, however, it become more competitive when Ferrari and Mercedes at their first pit stops opted for different strategies – Ferrari choosing the soft tyres and Mercedes the mediums.
  • Red Bull had its first double retirement since the 2010 Korean Grand Prix. This was after Verstappen got out of the pits by this team, but the car damage ultimately forced him out of the race.
  • Ferrari had an unlucky day when Raikkonen’s car was dropped from the jack before the left-rear wheel had been changed, resulting in hitting one of the mechanics who suffered a shinbone and fibula fracture. Raikkonen pulled out after he was instructed to stop the car just metres from his pit box. This was his second unsafe release of the weekend.
