Kvitova returned with a win after a prolonged lay-off after a traumatic knife attack at her home. In just 74 minutes she comfortably defeated 6-3, 6-2 the American Julia Boserup who is world number 86.

In December 2016, Kvitova suffered injuries to the left playing hand when she tackled a burglar at her home in the Czech. town of Prostejov. The incident left the tennis star fighting to save her career which while talking to the media at Roland Garros, about the condition of her hand Kvitova admitted that her hand was “still not 100%”.
