IAAF Diamond League 2018: Beatrice Breaks The World Record

Beatrice Chepkoech made a world record at Stade Louis II after completing the 3000m steeplechase in 8:44.32. Interestingly, Chepkoech became the first women from Kenya who broke the 3000m steeplechase world record at the IAAF Diamond League.

Previously, the world record was set by Ruth Jebet of Bahrain in 2016 in which the total time was 8:52.78.

Before breaking this record, Chepkoech who had never won a global medal before this event, already had the best time (8:59.36) of this tournament under her belt.

The Kenyan woman had also failed to cross a water jump in the last World Championship and had to run back to complete it. However, Beatrice Chepkoech made an excellent comeback as she won the silver medal in a 1500m race of the Commonwealth games final this season.

Chepkoech said after the race that she wanted to break the world record and was planning to do that from the start of the season. The Kenyan player also told the media that she thought of doing it at Monaco because of the weather, audience and the environment and was happy as the plan worked well.
