Highlights:

·         For Mumbai this was a must-win match and KXIP weren’t also looking to lose it as they wanted to secure their play-offs spot as soon as possible. KXIP were missing their mystery spinner and this meant that Mumbai batsmen could post a big total; which they did.

·        So, the the match started as the toss was held in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and it was won by Kings XI Punjab who chose to bowl first. MI batsmen Evan Lewis and SA Yadav walked out in the middle as the opening pair added 37 runs for the opening partnership before Tye struck in the 4th over to uproot Lewis’s stumps.

·         This was not the end of Andrew Tye’s venture as he returned in the 6th over to take two more wickets of Ishan Kishan and SA Yadav respectively. Mumbai Indians were now in trouble as they were 3 down for 59 in 5.4 overs.

.         Then came Mumbai Indian’s captain Rohit Sharma but his lean patch continued as could only manage 6 runs from 10 balls before giving his wicket to Ankit Rajpoot.

·        This was the time when KXIP should have taken one more wicket, however they failed in doing so. And, this is when the most crucial partnership of this innings was made as Pollard and Krunal Pandya shared a 65-run partnership to ensure Mumbai are on track of getting a big total.

·        After, Krunal got out Pollard added som more valuable runs before Ashwin got the better of him in the 16th over and claimed his first wicket. After that Hardik Pandya and Ben Cutting had to finish strong for Mumbai and had to get them over 200 runs but Tye took his fourth and Ashwin took his 2nd to ensure that both batsmen got out in single digits.

·         This is where McClenaghan stood up as his 7 ball 11 runs allowed Mumbai to post 186 runs on the board; A total which seemedcompetitive considering Mumbai’s bowling attack.

·         A similar start was made from both of them, especially from Narine who made 21-runs in 7 balls before giving his wicket to Stokes in the 2nd over. Robin Uthappa now joined Lynn but his stay was also cut short by Ben Stokes as he got out in the 4th over.

.         So, now the 2nd innings started as KXIP batsmen Chris Gayle and KL Rahul walked in to bat. Unsurprisingly, they gave a flying start to their team, however KXIP lost Gayle early as McClenaghan short ball got him out in the 4th over.

·         However, KXIP had nothing to worry about as their star batsman KL Rahul and the Australian opener Aaron Finch shared a massive partnership of 111-runs to put their team right on track of winning this match.

·       But, then came the match-changing over as Bumrah took two wickets of Aaron Finch and Marcus Stoinis in his 17th over to make this match more exciting. However, KL Rahul was still on the crease but it hardly mattered as Bumrah took his wicket in his last over to shift the momentum in Mumbai’s side.

·       It all came down to the last over as KXIP needed 17 runs off the last over to win this match. But, McClenaghan didn’t allow KXIP to score these runs as Mumbai won the match by 3 runs.

·       After this win things have become very much interesting in the points table as now any team including RR, RCB , KKR, KXIP or Mumbai can qualify for the play-offs.
