IPL Match Highlights:

  • RCB who thought they were out of contention of making it to the play-offs now but after the results of this week they now only needed 3 wins in their remaining 3 matches.
  • On the other hand, KXIP who had been on a losing streak wanted to win this match to add points to their table.
  • So, the match started as the toss was won by Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kohli chose to field first, considering the nature of this pitch. KL Rahul and Chris Gayle walked on the ground as they looked to score some runs rapidly to give KXIP a flying start.
  • And, they were partially successful in doing so however, Umesh Yadav took both of their wickets in the 5th over. This started a chain reaction as the KXIP batting line-up became exposed and RCB ripped straight through it.
  • As, after Umesh got rid of the prolific pair the other pacer, Mohammad Siraj did his part as he took the wicket of Karun Nair in the very next over.
  • After that Kohli went to spin and got rewarded with another wicket as YS Chahal took the wicket of Mark Stoinis who was looking quite stable in the middle.
  • Now, KXIP were 4 wickets down on 50 runs. And, they desperately needed the remaining batsmen to step up in order to get to a respectable total.
  • However, that was not going to happen as RCB had their bowling plan quite efficiently planned out, and no KXIP batsmen could stand on the crease for more than 2 overs.
  • With 3 run-outs and 2 wickets by Yadav and de Grandhomme, RCB bowled out KXIP on a low total of 88 runs. Quite humiliating if you consider KXIP’s batting line-up.
  • Now the 2nd innings started and Virat Kohli promoted himself as an opener with Parthiv Patel, as both batsmen looked to chase this total down in quick time to aid their net run-rate.
  • And that is exactly what they did. Kohli along with Parthiv showed their class and batting skills.
  • As they did not allow KXIP bowlers to take their wicket and also hammered them all over the ground and won the match in 9 overs.
  • The sole reason as to why KXIP lost this match is because of their batting as they failed to score the runs that should have been scored on this pitch.
  • However, things were going to be quite different today as RCB came out today as a dangerous looking bowling attack as they tore through the KXIP batting line-up.
