LPC LAHORE: Barry’s and Habib Metro Lions/Master Paints won the Samba Bank Lahore Open Polo Championship 2017 openers after defeating their respective opponents here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Tuesday.

In the first match of the day, Barry’s played well against Diamond Paints and defeated them by 7-5. Hernan Pieres was hero of the day for Barrys as he slammed in superb six goals while the remaining one was struck by Raja Samiullah. From Diamond Paints, Eulogio Celestino and Ahmad Khan scored a brace each while Mir Huzaifa hit one.

Diamond Paints started the match with a field goal through Ahmad Khan to take 1-0 lead while the score was equalized in the start of the second chukker when Hernan Pieres fired a field goal for Barry’s. In the dying moments of the second chukker, Ahmad Khan converted a spot penalty successfully to provide Diamond Paints 2-1 lead.

The highly-charged third chukker saw Barry’s hammering fabulous four goals one after another to take impressive 5-2 lead. Hernan hammered a hat-trick and Raja Samiullah struck one goal. Eulogio Celetino then helped Diamond Paints make a comeback by scoring two back-to-back goals to close the gap to 5-4. In the fourth and last chukker, Hernan continued his good form and converted a 30-yarder successfully to give Barry’s 6-4 edge. Mir Huzaifa then came from behind to struck one for Diamond Paints to reduce the margin to 6-5. It was that Diamond Paints could get as Barry’s then hammered another goal to take 7-5 lead, which proved good enough for them to register a hard-fought and well-deserving victory. Ahmed Ali Tiwana and Raja Arslan Najeeb supervised the match.

Hamza Mawaz Khan heroics helped Habib Metro Lions/Master Paints outpace Future Developers/Rijas by 6-3 in the second encounter of the day. Hamza Mawaz played superb polo and fired fantastic four goals while Bilal Haye banged in a brace from the winning side. Geoffredo thwarted all the three goals from the losing side.

Habib Metro started the match on a high note as they struck one goal in the first chukker and pumped in three more goals in the second chukker to take 4-0 lead while Future Developers struck one to make it 4-1. Future Developers then score two more in the third chukker to further reduce the margin to 4-3 but one more goal came from Habib Metro to enhance their lead to 5-3. The only goal of the fourth and last chukker was converted by Habib Metro to finish the match having 6-3 lead. Eulogio Celestino and Raja Arslan Najeeb officiated the match as field umpire.

On Wednesday, Black Horse Paints will take on Guard Group in the only encounter of the day.
