The Japanese Olympics Minister and the IOC International Olympic Committee along with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has finalised a budget of 1.55 trillion Yen for the historically most expensive Tokyo Olympics 2020-2021.

Originally the Games were expected to cost 1.35 trillion Yen but due to the corona pandemic the games have been delayed for one year which has raised the budget too.

The cost was to be shared by IOC organising committee to cover 603 billion Yen, the Tokyo metropolitan government 597 billion yen and the central government the remaining 150 billion Yen. But dialogues are in process to finalise the revised budget share for each of the three stakeholders.

The Olympics will be held between 23rd July and 8th August next year and will be followed by the Paralympics from 24th August to 5th September 2021.
