To ensure that the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics are held in safe environment the Japan Government is preparing to vaccinate its population 4 times a year against COVID-19 before July 2021.

Japan has a population of 12.6 million and 11000 expected athletes so government is arranging to line up half-billion doses of 5 different COVID-19 vaccines before commencement of Olympics in July 2021.

Deals with pharmaceutical companies – Shionogi & Co, Pfizer Inc and AstraZeneca PLC have been finalised for supply of vaccines.

Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga announced the plan on 28th August. Japan’s National Institute of Public Health supported this plan through its director Tomoya Saito. Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike is looking after distrubution arrangements of the vaccine in Tokyo.
