Football Leagues Updates: 20th To 22nd April Matches Overviews

After yet another European break due to 2nd Leg quarterfinals of Europa and Champions Leagues, all the major European leagues were in action on the weekend. Allsportspk yet again brings you crisp and informative reviews and summaries of the Matcheday ties played on 20, 21 and 22 April from England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. La Liga

Ten more matches were decided in the Spanish top league on Matchday 30 of 38. The results are given below.

On the points table, Barcelona stay at top with 76 points. Real Madrid maintain their 2nd position with 65 points. Atletico Madrid are 3rd with 60 points and Real Sociedad 4th with 54 points. The teams in relegation zone are Valencia (30), Espanyol (28) and Elche (13). All the teams have played 30 matches each.

Ligue 1

10 matches were played in French top league on 22 and 23 April on Matchday 32 of 38. Results are given below.

All the teams have completed 32 matches each. PSG continue to lead with 75. Marseille are at 2nd with 67 points. Lens are 3rd with 66 and Monaco on 4th with 61 points on the table. At the bottom, Troyes (22), Ajaccio (22) and Angers (14) are almost sure to be relegated.                                                                                                 

English Premier League

8 matches were played on 22and 23 April, Matchday 32 of 38. Arsenal earned their 6th draw of the season and may lose the lead to Manchester City who have played two games less. Wins in next two matches will put Manchester City on top of the table. 5th placed Tottenham suffered their worst defeat of the season. Manchester City have entered Champions League semifinals and with their current form, a European and national double seems a close reality. Manchester United would be keen to finish in top – 4 after having been dumped out of Europa quarterfinals. Results are given below.

Points Tables Overview

On the points table, Arsenal have 75 points from 32 games. Second placed Manchester City have 70 from 30 games. Newcastle United have leap-frogged Manchester United and are now 3rd at 59 points from 31 games. Manchester United are 4th with 59 points from 30 games. Everton (28), Nottingham Forest (27), and Southampton (24) are in the relegation zone.

Bundusliga

Results of the top German league on Matchday 29 of 34 played on 21, 22 and 23 April. Bayern are showing some signs of fatigue as they suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of 7th placed Mainz. They played a draw in their previous Bundusliga game as well as suffered defeat in both home and away Champions League quarterfinal by Manchester City. Results are as under.

Points Tables Overview

After completion of 29 matches, Bayern have been replaced at the top by Dortmund with 60 points. Bayern are 2nd with 59 points. Union Berlin are at 3rd spot with 55 points. SC Freiburg have leap-frogged RB Leipzig tp be at 4th position with 53 points. Teams in the relegation zone are VfB Stuttgart (25), Schalke (24) and Hertha (22).

Serie A

Many Italian teams were involved in the European quarterfinals and some of the results in Italian premier league Serie A may have carried the effects thereof. Results of Matchday 31 of 38 played on 21, 22 and 23 April are as under.

  • Torino 1 – 0  Lazio
  • Sampdoria  1 – 1 Spezia
  • Inter   3 – 0  Empoli
  • Monza  3 – 2 Fiorentina
  • Udinese  3 – 0  Cremonese
  • Milan  2 – 0  Lecce
  • Napoli  1 – 0  Juventus
  • Roma (To be played on 24th) Atalanta

As stated above, Inter, Milan and Napoli had played in the Champions League quarterfinals and all three registered victories in the home league.  Juventus though won their European match against Sporting Lisbon, but lost to the Serie A leaders Napoli.

Points Tables Overview

All the teams have played 31 matches each less Roma and Atalanta whose match is scheduled on  24th April. Napoli are the runaway leader with 78 points. Lazio are second with 61 points. Juventus are now 3rd with 59 points after pushing Roma to 4th with 56. Bottom three teams Verona (26), Cremonese (19) and Sampdoria (17) are in the relegation zone unless they make dramatic strides in their remaining matches.
